Problem with BSC 3.7

I'm able to run BSC 3.7 okay, but it always plays the first move out of book pretty much instantly. Is there any way to overcome this?

Has anybody been able to overcome this problem? I've tried using it under both ChessGUI and Fritz.

Some other engines I tried out with a possible view to testing, but struck problems with were:

Frank-Walter - seems to have a memory leak which I couldn't stop.
ArabianKnight - can't find a way to use it without its own GUI popping up.
Sjakk 1.1 - wouldn't start thinking once out of book.
BremboCE - time management problem.

BremboCE 0.6.1 is okay during the first time control, but doesn't understand the second time control (x moves in y minutes repeating).
