xboard configuration

Postby 2di » 17 Apr 2010, 18:01

Hi All

Just trying to connect my project and I having some problems with xboard configuration on ubuntu.

Do you know hot to set any options once xboard is started ? When I trying to enter something like "-coords" into terminal nothing is happend?? in fact I can enter anything there and I cant get any messages back/

Also I was looking for xboard configuration file. It looks like I found one in "/usr/share/lintian/overrides/xboard" But changes to this file doesnt affect application?

And a last question, this is example for boolean property "xboard*colorizeMessages: true" but what is the right syntax for non argument properties, like simple "-coords" ?

Thanks a lot

Command-line options like -coords only work on the command line. Once you have started XBoard the only way to change settings is through the menus. There is a 'Show Coordinates' item in the Options menu that allows you to swicth the coordinate display on and off. Not all options can be controlled through the menus, though. This is one of the areas where XBoard still lags enormously compared to WinBoard.

I think you have to use the long forms of the options, which have an argument. -coords is short for -showCoords true (I think).

If you want to control settings through a file, it would be better to use a development version than a version from the stable (4.4.x) branch. The development version supports a real settings file. The Debian Eperimental suite provides a Debian package for it, and the way it installs would put the settings file in ~/.xboardrc .

OK, I see, you need to pass, parameters as arguments for xboard, that will work for now.

Thank you
