WinBoard 4.5.3 released

A binary installer package for WinBoard 4.5.3 is now available from the download section of this forum. This is a bugfix release of the stable version, so no new features! (These are all in the 4.5-TM beta version, which is not declared stable yet.)

The board option under "View>Boards ... " does not work and default cannot be set. It appears as a WOOD panel image.

* also allow password to be re-set without knowing your username in case of forgetting that as well as password. Just require the email input for reset email.

To switch off the background textures you have to run WinBoard once with "Additional options"

-liteBackTextureFile "" -darkBackTextureFile ""

to make the filenames invalid. (In XBoard you could also set these options from the View->Board dialog.) In WinBoard 4.6 there will be an option -useTextures true|false, which controls both the light and dark squares at once, and which you can set from the dialog through a checkbox (without losing the file names of the bitmaps, so you can alsoswitch them on again easily).

Eventually I would like to have a dialog that shows you a sample of all textures in the textures folder, and would select any of them by just clicking on the sample. But this might not be before WinBoard 4.7.

Not sure what password you are talking about.WinBoard does not use any user names or passwords, does it?

Thanks for the fix. It worked for the board.

Might U explain how to use books. I would like to install book with Crafty and /XBook command gives error. Help does not help.

Password for the forum. PPL might forget their username also with their password. Currently U need to indicate both to reset the password for a certain email.

About the password issue : we need to follow phpbb rules, as far as I know.

So at least you should remember your username, which should not be that difficult
