set common threads for engines?

Postby jdart » 16 Mar 2014, 18:33

It would be nice if there were an equivalent to /defaultHashSize to set the number of threads used by engines (there does not not seem to be such an option or if so I could not find it in the docs).

Lacking this how can thread count be set, preferably from the command line (I am using mostly UCI engines)?

The 'Max Nr of CPUs' field in the Common Engine dialog serves this purpose. It is persistent, so when you set in once you don't even have to mention it on the command line. Otherwise I think the option was -smpCores N (not sure). There is no UCI standard for the Threads option, though, so if an engine uses a fanciful and uncommon name for it, Polyglot won't recognize it as such, and it will appear in the Engine Settings dialog like other private engine options/
