Is there a way to adjust the colors of the bars in the Evaluation window? I see where to set the location and size of the window, but not the colors. Yellow is just too hard to read.

Yes, there are (persistent) command_line options for that. But I dom't know them by heart, and cannot look it up now. Something like -evalColorWhite #ffff00 .

I use complementary colours for highest contrast. There is a nice site for quick finding those complementary colour tags here:
