Does Winboard 4.7.3 not install on an Ipad? I installed it on my pc but

it does not, I would ask what chess960 programs do run on the Ipad?

WinBoard is a Windows program. iPad (iOS), Mac (OS X) and Linux are not Windows-compatible.

I don't see a port of xboard happening either. Gtk2 isn't meant for iOS afik. And certainly not X11. I don't have an ipad anyway to mess with it. And even if I did magically get something working, it would never be accepted on the .app store. Apple only wants apps that use their UI toolkits to coincide with their brand image. And then there is the issue that any app should really be designed from the ground up to be useable on a touch device. Xboard isn't.

Does anyone know of a program that runs Chess960 on an Ipad and not just a
position generator but the whole enchilada?

I thought that the conventional design of a separate GUI and engines is not possible on iOS (although that might just be true for iPhone, and not for iPad; I have neither). One process (the GUI) is not allowed to start and communicate with another independent one (the engine).
I know there exists a Stockfish app, which integrates a Stockfish engine with a dedicated Stockfish iPhone GUI. It cannot run any other engines, but I thought that Stockfish does support Chess960.
