Hello Robert,

I can only speak to the ones where I have been in direct contact with the author.

Fruit is under active development as is Chess Tiger. For the latter engine, a Christmas release (non-UCI to the best of my knowledge) is contemplated.

In other respects, I tend to agree with Gábor's assessments.

Later.

Thinker is still active, there is a newer version playing in WBEC tho kind of old. Leo had said before the start of last edition that he received a newer version but it had time control problems that werent easy to fix. I think Sos is still around, because I remember seeing the parellel version of it in a tournament a while back under the name Parsos. Also Tao might make a comeback, because Bas got an account at CCC few weeks ago and asked some questions about Koge-stone method. I am very sad to see that I wont ever receive a new version of Yace, Pepito or Comet.

Never say never! :D
I think old loves never die! And for the authors of these programs, even if the return will not happen in the next 1-2-3 years, i'm sure there will be a point when their interest will be rejuvenated and we will see newer versions.....
I still use Yace for some endgame analysis as its backward analysis ability was too good, even for these days now....

Hi,
what were actually these specific backward analysis capabilities of Yace?

Thanks
Robert

I have an update on this topic. New version of Dragon, Dragon 5.0.2 is competing at WBEC, so it seems that the project isnt dead after all, just private at the moment.
