Very nice, Alex !

Just a question : does your winboard.ini editor accept relative paths ?

Thanks for all these useful tools.

Thanks Marc.

Where you need relative paths?
Maybe might be easy put it.

I need it for the engine location : in the screen capture shown on your site I see 'c:\somepath\pepito.exe'

I mainly use winboard as a portable application located on a USB key.
when I go from a precise computer to another one, the drive letter for the USB key may change and so what was "d:" on one PC becomes "e:" on another one.
I put all engines in subdirectories of winboard's directory. If these directories are referred as relative paths (relative to winboard's own location) then I have no problems with the drive letter changing from PC to PC.

Hola Alex:
My congratulations for yor utilities.
Anyhow I have problems with them. EngMan ask me the qtinf.dll file that I do not have.
My Winboard 4.27 do not have the option "Move history" and I do not know how to create such option.
Please your help,
Un abrazo

Hola Alex:
I had been testing Winman and I have 3 observations.
1) It is impossible to edit the file exe window of Winman, so you cannot change the version number, that is the most common change with winboard engines.
2) When you use the classic method to configurate an UCI engine for Winboard, Winman create a polyglot.ini at the UCI engine folder.
but this polyglot.ini file is an old fashioned style without the egtb options and others.
3)Also the Winman classic UCI method write at the winboard.ini command line, the parameter polyglot.ini, when now is not needed, if if the file is called polyglot.ini and is at the ICI engine folder.
Un cordial saludo,
Pablo Urzua

Hi Pablo, thanks by your interest.
I am adding a small tournament manager to WinMan but it takes time.
I am doing an engine book as BookThinker too.
In next release WinMan will have your ideas.

Regards.

Hola Alex:
Thanks for your reply. Is a very good new to know your are working in a kind of new BookThinker utility. I must said that old BookThinker do not work or show error in more of 50% of winboard engines that do not have opening books.
I will be looking foward for your future developments.
Felicidades y èxito,

Hello Pablo,

I put the relevant section of the quote in bold for clarification purposes.

Could you list the engines you are describing here please? I must say that my experiences are totally different from yours. I have found bookthinker works quite well.

One problem to examine is if the engine supports starting from a set position once out of book. I think the relevant Winboard command is setboard.

Where an engine does not support it then that may give rise to errors.

What version of bookthinker are you using? Perhaps I could send you my copy. The specific thinkerbook I use is a private one but this version of the executable should work with the books you currently have.

Is the gui that you are using Winboard incidentally?

Later.

Hello Roger:
I will gather my experience with BookThinker and answer for your questions and revert.
Meanwhile I advance the following datas, the problems with BookThinker in general appear inmediately after the first move out of book. The Winboard version is 4.27 and the BookThinker version is of May10,2003.
I prefer to use email.
Mine is indech@ctcinternet.cl.

Hello Roger:
I am still checking my over 300 winboard engines collection for those engines without opening book and that BookThinker utility do not work well.
Here is my first list:

Carnivor
Echelon
Exacto
Fianchetto
Fortress 1.52
Gaia 1.1
GrayMatter
Jaksah
Jupiter
Ltk
MiniMax

I will revert in few days with other list.

Pablo

It is like Roger already said, only those which don't support the
setboard WB command will not work with BookThinker but those
are just a few. BTW Fortress should have an own book.
