Hello !
All year long, I have tested positions to make an openings suite that would fullfill my wishings.
In the hope that it might once be useful to someone else, I post it here.
My idea was to ensure as much as possible that engines may play according to their own styles and not end up in positions they would not choose themselves with strategic plans already imposed or too much tactical tricks already defined, so I aimed for :
a. Shortness :
all opening positions are after 5 plies (3 and a half moves).
b. "Closeness"
in all positions no exchange has been made and no pawn can be taken the next move.
c. Variety.
all positions (including with reversed colors) have at 3 least different moves from all others.
That way, I managed to find 30 positions that lead, at least in my opinion, to interesting chess being played by the engines. Some positions are usual, more usual ones can be reached via transpositions and all the others are, I think, close enough to reasonnable opening theory.
Best wishes.
