The King book under Winboard

Hello,

Sorry if this was asked before, but I have The King 3.12d and I'd like to make the opening book work.

I use it with GalisWBTM 0.5.0 and the following command line:

/firstInitString="xboard\npost\nnew\ncm_parm opk=129792\ncm_parm tts=33554432" /firstProtocolVersion 1

I get the opk number changing theking.exe by crafty and then checking the log.

So, what am I doing wrong?

or maybe I can use bookthinker. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Carlos

AFAIK, the book for The King is managed by the GUI, so you can't make the engine use it outside ChessMaster GUI. You can use BookThinker, though, which works perfectly with The King.

Here is some stuff i posted in the old winboard forum a while back. Hopefully the links still work. If you have any questions send me an email.

----------------------------------------------------
Hi, I've been messing with tweaking cm9000 for a while and I've had several people give me good tips along the way. Here is how i have it running in winboard with a bookthinker opening book and MAPI parameters from grailmaster.com

1. patch your version of TheKing.exe so it won't need the opk number.
(NOTE: dont apply this patch to TheKing in your CM9000 directory! Instead, copy TheKing.exe to C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1 and patch it there.)

2. Download Bookthinker if you want a book. The best book I have found so far is on this webpage.
http://home.t-online.de/home/g.simon.rgbg/acr2.htm

If you want to go straight to the file click below.
http://www.adelberger.net/Replay/BookThinker.zip

3. Download Inbetween. http://home.online.no/~malin/sjakk/down ... etween.zip

4. Extract the files in BookThinker.zip, and Inbetween.zip to C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1.

5. Rename Inbetween.exe to InB.exe
Rename TheKing.exe to TheKing3.23c.exe
Rename Bookthinker.exe to TheKing.exe

6. Edit inbetween.ini with wordpad.

Copy the text between these lines and overwrite the other data in inbetween.ini
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Code: Select all
[InBetween]
CommandLine := C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1\TheKing3.23c.exe
Debug := 3
[Client2Server]
xboard := xboard\nhard\neasy\npost\nnew\ncm_parm opp=103 opn=99 opb=99 opr=101 myp=103 myn=99 myb=99 myr=101 myq=101 mob=105 ks=135 pp=105 avd=1 sel=11 tts=33554432 ttu=7

------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. You should have 5 files in C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1.
BookThinker.dat (910 kb)
InBetween.ini (1 kb)
TheKing.exe (23 kb) (used to be bookthinker.exe)
InB.exe (192 kb) (used to be InBetween.exe)
TheKing3.23c.exe (131 kb) (used to be theking.exe)

8. Now go to C:\Program Files\WinBoard\ and edit winboard.ini. (we're almost done.)

Go near the bottom and find "/firstChessProgramNames={".
Edit the line to what is below.

Code: Select all
/firstChessProgramNames={"C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1\theking C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1\InB" /firstProtocolVersion=1

Have fun!

Alex WBTM provides openings books to engines with winboard and bookthinker.
The best you have to adapt nothing, the program saves an copy of Bookthinker in Book1 folder and other in Book2 folder, the books created too and since there with only two copies AlexWBTM may provide books to all engines Uci and Winboard as TheKing, Shredder, Fruit, etc...
If you have an book done like ThinkerMain30.dat you only move it to Book1 (without to rename) and one copy in Book2.

Regards.
