Hi,
Is it possible to setup Arena on certain position and match two engines? I know it can be done by saving the file to an epd file , but
it is complicated for me. With winboard, just pasting the positon will do.
BTW the new Arena 1.99beta Wood board is great.
regards,
Daniel

I actually prefer using the EPD file method, because it is persistent and automatic. Using a file of EPD positions (or a single EPD position for a thematic tournament) is the only way I know of to do it in Arena.
BTW, the EPD file method is severely broken in the Arena beta versions. DON'T USE IT. You have to go back to the 1.1x versions of Arena. If you play from a starting position with 1.9x versions you will get aborted games and claims of illegal positions when there are no illegal positions.

If you just want to paste epd from the clipboard, F6 will do the job.

The reason why i want this is for replaying games starting from a certain move. Lets say scorpio played against engine x and lost the game. Once i made some improvements to scorpio, i want to rematch them starting from, lets say move 30, to see if there is any improvement. If i have many games it seems the epd way is tiresome.
p.s: your site not back up yet?

Hi Daniel,
the only way i know how to do it is the following:
copy and paste the position in arena with fen
press F11 then choose your two engines from the right list that should be active on the left side
press ok..wait till the engines have loaded
and now press the demo button that is left to the analyze button
that always worked for me.if you have further questions just contact me.

Thanks a lot Mark! That is exactly what i needed.
How stupid of me to forget the Demo button!
Somehow I thought matches can only be done using
the tournament dialoge box.

Daniel
