Hello Patrice,

what do you estimate the rating of Cheese to be approximately?

Regards, Graham.

May I ask what type of cheese it is? Hard or soft? Mild or aromatic?

Seriously: why this funny name name? We already have Fruit, Lamb Chop, Quark (German)...

Hi, Patrice. I think you need to know that Cheese 1.0b has big problems in chessbase as a uci engine. Im not sure what it would do in x moves/xminutes, but at 3 min. + 2 sec. and 25 min. for each to make all moves, it makes each of its moves thru the complete game in 2 seconds. And by the 15th or so move is - 7 or -8 points. Then it hangs up and wont move in the second game. I am running it staight uci with no winboard adapters. One important thing that may make all this irrelevant is it says on your site that the download contains an opening book. If so, it has to be in the engine exe. And if that is so and it cannot be removed, we at CCRL cannot test it anyway. Please if you have time enlighten me here.

Best Regards,

George

I don't know...

I made many test using testsuites, but only few games with other engines.

with EQ6.epd I found 139/189 => 2487 ELO
and with BT2630.epd, 2327 ELO,
but I know it has to be tested against other engines to find the real strength.

very aromatic, like most French cheese :D

Thanks for reporting this problem.
I only tested using Arena and Winboard.
My time managing function is not great... (in non fixed time search, for each moves I only use the remaining time divide by 30)

I have no opening book, my engine is able to use one in my own format, but I have not made a good opening book, and I prefer to use existing books, ex: arena mainbook.
I will remove "Opening book" on my site.

Thanks, Patrice. We use generic books, so we cannot use an engine that we cant remove the opening book. A few for whatever weird reason have the book in the exe, and we arent able to test them. To save time, if you would like to send me a copy when you have worked this out, my address is geotsp8@aol.com. I will test it thoroughly for you in chessbase, and let you know the results. that will keep you from having to make another public release when you are not sure all is fixed. I will check each and everything for you and let you know if it is ready to go. Glad to help when i can.

The Best,

As you know, cheese goes great with fruit.

And let's not forget my favorite: Gullydeckel, which Boris had convinced me was his brother's name.
:D

Hello Patrice :)

Some testers like to use generic books, but some other ones prefer the engines to have a book on their own, because they believe the book is part of the engine.

I would suggest that you keep developing your own book format, and allow people to switch ownbook off in case they prefer generic books.

Yes - that way, you keep all the users happy! :D

All the best ironing out the bugs. Looking forward to trying Cheese out.

I have similar problems under Arena 1.1 as well using it as a wb engine. It makes all the moves in matter of seconds in incremental time control, game in x minutes, and 40moves in X minute formats.

I released a new version : Cheese 1.0c

It solves the problems in time management, and UCI / Winboard protocols,
the previous version was not using enough time to think in tournament mode.

I add a small opening book in my own format.

Thanks to George Speight for testing :)

Hi Patrice. The download links on your English site for version 1.0c (http://cheesechess.free.fr/en/cheese/cheese_10c.zip) and the opening book (http://cheesechess.free.fr/en/cheese/cheeseopenbook.bin) are incorrect. The /en needs to be taken out.
