As I have no experience in running Linux, or programming for it, I am looking for someone who wants to work with me to port the changes that Allessandro Scotti and I have made in WinBoard (to create WinBoard_x and WinBoard_F) to xboard.
As far as I understand it, this would basically involve only updating the source-code file xboard.c to parallel the changes made in winboard.c, as most of the files modified (backend.c, moves.c, parser.l) are shared between WinBoard and xboard.
As most of the modifications I made were in teh shared files, this should not be a comparatively easy job. I have no experience whatsoever in programming for Linux and the X-windows interface. Most of the changes made by me to winboard.c involve addition of a number of new bitmaps for piece symbols, making board width and height independent and adjustable, blacking out some board squares (with or without a number in them) for displaying crazyhouse holdings, adding new options in the option parsing list, and adding a few new menu items in the pull-down menus.
Anyone interested?
