JanWillem

Postby Laurens Winkelhagen » 26 Nov 2004, 15:15

Hi All,

Again there is a new version of JanWillem available.

v1.11
- mate extensions

Seeing that I already implemented check-extensions and a NULL-move routine, this was really easy to implement. Now I just wonder why I didn't implement this before, because it does seem to make the program quite a bit stronger.

Of course, I thought the same about the improvements in v1.10, and now I am not so sure if the program is indeed stronger, but I'd never know until I publish it, right?-)

Kind Regards, Laurens.

Since the last post there are even _two_ new versions of JanWillem out. That Darned Leo is just too quick to discover about them!

Anyway, you can download Jan Willem at http://www.students.cs.uu.nl/~lwinkelh/janwillem.

v1.12:
- bugfixes (bug not bugfixed!)
- Make book function!!
- bigger opening book.
- Better endgame play by sending the king to the center faster

v1.13
- bugfixed?? I hope:-) at least:
- Less buggy 3fold rep detection.
- better? understanding of passed pawns: still room for major improvement though.
- Actually better than the previous version.
This last feature unfortunately isn't standard:-)

About the openingsbook:
There is a small book included in the zip-file, but a bigger one is available at my website. I have no clue which one is better:-)
If you run a tournament with Jan Willem, I'll be curious to know which book you use:-)

About the makebook function:
The function takes a pgn file, which must be named openings.pgn. The pgn-file should adhere to the pgn-specs:-)
the command in the engine is
makebook $1 $2 $3 or
makewinbook $1 $2 $3 (this last version only takes moves of the side that won the game.
$1 = minimun number of times the move has been played
$2 = number of plies used of a game (try 50)
$3 = permillage that the move is played in a situation (I used 25)

I hope you will enjoy this new version, Laurens.

Hi all,

A 3fold rep bugfix (again) is available. Version number still v1.13.

TD's, I would appreciate it if you redownload Jan Willem: In a test tourney I saw Jan Willem draw a won position against KnightX (!!) due to this bug... so the bugfix is probably worth some points:-)

Thanx, Laurens.
