JRCP is strong!

Once & a while over at CCC I'll try to hint to James that we'd like him to release his program to the public, but he never responds. But there's too many good programs that we can get for me to worry about getting JRCP, I'd like to though, maybe he'll release it next year.

I know that he is working on a new version, and I think he uses the different versions of JRCP0.41 for experimentation and tweaking purposes. Therefore the next version might be significantly stronger and released to the public. You could always mail and ask for a version. I don't think he says no that often. I myself haven't been testing it all that much, because my tournament is very timeconsuming. Next time there'll be 8 instead of 16 engines in the main tournament.
Best wishes...

I can't run a serious tournament and my computer is very dated so I won't ask him for a copy. Every thing that I've seen including results of yours indicates that his program will be one of the tops if he releases it.
Allot of us want to see Ferrit released too, but it doesn't happen. I find that it's best not to worry about those type of things. I'm very happy to see Dragon finally released at the Download place here. I'm going to be thinking of that one as being the new program for a while.

I hope so. I would be nice to see a new strong engine. I'll try to influence him regarding release of the engine.
I would like to get my hands on LG2000, but I already have to many engines. I think I'll have to reduce the number by erasing some of the weaker engines. They hardly get used anyway. I don't know anything about Dragon and it hasn't been tested by me yet. Maybe a match between Dragon and JRCP?
Best wishes...

I would put Dragon closer to Inmichess and Exchess. You have some games with JRCP beating AnMon, I'm guessing that Dragon can't do that. I like playing against it, but a program can make several mistakes and still beat me while not being very strong at all. I don't think Dragon is strong, just somewhat enjoyable.

These are the results of a rather quick 5 min/60 mvs tournament that I ran on my slow computer a while back to try to decide Dragon's relative strength, at that time I had been thinking that Dragon was a bit stronger otherwise I would have selected other programs, I don't know how to adjust hashtables with Dragon. GNU didn't do well because of the same problem, I think GNU is probably stronger than that.

If you have problems with hashtablesetting for GNUChess, check the engineubersicht and GNUChess/Details. I don't know about dragon though.
Surprising result. GNUChess should be able to make things difficult for ZChess and Dragon.

Hello,
Dragon play with 4 MB for hash-tables. You can not adjust an another configuration for hash-tables !
Yes Mogens, GnuChess can play with more hash-tables. The adjust for this is curios but right :-) (see Detail site from GnuChess and the config.zip data, WinBoard.ini) !

If I understand things correctly then GNUChess has a default Hashtable of 8mb which is a good amount for me because I only have 40mb ram (strange number, I know) on my computer, when I set the hashtables higher the programs page my harddrive, sometimes I can use 10 or 12mb. Dragon does well with less hashtable.

As I recall, Zarkov allways does very well in your tournaments, do you run it at only 8mb? I think that's rather interesting, you run the other programs with more. I should try to find out more about John Stanback, he's very famous for his work as a Chess programmer, and yet he is a very low profile person, that is I don't notice anybody ever writting about him (or him ever writing) at CCC or Usenet. He's very quiet.

If you have problems with hashtablesetting for GNUChess, check the engineubersicht and GNUChess/Details. I don't know about dragon though.
Surprising result. GNUChess should be able to make things difficult for ZChess and Dragon.
Best wishes...

Hello,
Dragon play with 4 MB for hash-tables. You can not adjust an another configuration for hash-tables !
Yes Mogens, GnuChess can play with more hash-tables. The adjust for this is curios but right :-) (see Detail site from GnuChess and the config.zip data, WinBoard.ini) !
Kind regards
Frank
If I understand things correctly then GNUChess has a default Hashtable of 8mb which is a good amount for me because I only have 40mb ram (strange number, I know) on my computer, when I set the hashtables higher the programs page my harddrive, sometimes I can use 10 or 12mb. Dragon does well with less hashtable.
Pete

Hello Pete,
This is an good question for all !
I think that 8 MB for hash-tables are enough for GnuChess. John Stanback writing that more than 8 MB for Zarkov is not many better.
Kind regards
Frank
As I recall, Zarkov allways does very well in your tournaments, do you run it at only 8mb? I think that's rather interesting, you run the other programs with more. I should try to find out more about John Stanback, he's very famous for his work as a Chess programmer, and yet he is a very low profile person, that is I don't notice anybody ever writting about him (or him ever writing) at CCC or Usenet. He's very quiet.

Hello Pete,
yes, for me is Zarkov one of the best chess programs. Very strong endgame and an fantastic strategy.
In the WT-4 tournament from Kai and me and the WT-5 tournament from Kai, Christian and me play Zarkov with 8 MB for hash-tables and the other programs with ~ 32 MB for hash-tables.
I play many years with Zarkov and I play many games against the dos Version 2.51 (strong enough for me) !
Kind regards
Frank

These are the results of a rather quick 5 min/60 mvs tournament that I ran on my slow computer a while back to try to decide Dragon's relative strength, at that time I had been thinking that Dragon was a bit stronger otherwise I would have selected other programs, I don't know how to adjust hashtables with Dragon. GNU didn't do well because of the same problem, I think GNU is probably stronger than that.
