Anyone ever had a Fruit 2.0 fast crash under WB?

Postby Guenther Simon » 01 Jun 2005, 12:34

@Fabien especially,

Has anyone ever experienced a crash with the Fruit 2.0 fast release (xmas 2004)
by Fabien? I am doing long 40/5 matches since some weeks on my tourney machine
and yesterday I saw that Fruit had exited unexpectedly in game 37 of 40 against The Baron.
So far this is the very first time in a few hundreds of games.
Debug and Polyglot logs are saved, there was also a DrWatson report file and a dump file
created (no idea though what the latter file means - but it was created at the same time,
when the crash happened. It's a binary which seems to contain some info about the
move history e.g.)
As usual this was on my PIV 2.67Ghz, WINXP SP1, Winboard 4.27(Alessandro Scotti),
Fruit with own Polyglot book, but I don't remember right now the Polyglot version.
(I am still at work)

Guenther,

I could be wrong but IIRC Fabian said that Fruit 2 doesn't check the legality of the hash move which could lead to a crash. I think he said it was a top priority to fix this.

Yes, but with the meaning "in the next release". I suppose it can crash once every X000 games. Unfortunately my computer is unstable and all engines crash once in a while on it, so I cannot estimate the figure. Let's see if other people answer in this thread.

Crash = instant loss of course. Sorry for the inconvienence.

Of course it could be something else, I will know only after fixing the feature

Fabien.

I never ever experienced a crash of Fruit in actually thousands of games. This is under UCI though.

Confirmed. Fruit is involved here in an ongoing test using it with Tomas Mayer's epd2wb tool running as UCI engine. It has analysed several hundret positions so far an there wasn't any problem. I also don't remember any chrashes in tests in the past.
