CEGT: first 633 Fruit 2.1 games available for download

Hi all :) ,

first 633 games for Fruit 2.1 with CEGT time control (40/40 - 2 Ghz) are available for download.

There are two files, one with comments and a smaller one without.

All games sent so far from all testers are combined in one table you can find here:

The "live rating" updates are either removed or not updated until a new CEGT ratinglist will be available today or tomorrow, so that we can put in the values changed for the other engines by the matches against Fruit.

Hello Heinz,

Is there any chance to get the commented games with standard PGN
comments too, instead of extended CB style (%emt... %eval...)?
It would be wonderful to have a PGN only with eval/depth handy, because
then they can be run against Thomas Mc Burneys great blundercheck tool
for finding the most interesting positions much faster than manually
or by any other way.

Here is an example which kind of PGN would be needed:
(don't know if CB can produce this, though? AFAIK _all_ CEGT
testers use CB exclusively now?)

yes, I know this bundercheck tool is great. We should report ChessBase people about those possibities.

Well, ChessBase certainly is not a bad database but there are still a lot of things that could be improved. I did not study all the features as I am performing the same things over and over again, but as far as I know there is only the possibility to strip comments completely or not.

You can load the pgn into SCID and have a number of fine options more, but so far I do not see how it could help us with what we want. Certainly there are people here aquainted more with database stuff. So hints are welcome.

CEGT testers can of course also use other GUI?s for the engines that can be run in Winboard or Arena, but in CEGT 1 to 4 we always had Anaconda, Fritz, Junior or others. Now we invented CEGT freestyle so that every tester can practically test whatever he wants with the usual time controls and the engines we already have in with many games. This freedom avoids already a lot of quarrels you usually have when testing in a group as one of the main things every tester would prefer to decide alone is the choice of engines and the tournament mode. Uschi?s City Grand Prix is just one example for alternative models and we will have more of them.

Could someone explain how to use this tool? I ran one test game with the default settings in GameAnalyser.ini and got this in the report file ...

This is an obvious recapture move, and certainly not an interesting move. :-(

I have no idea what the default settings are.
You have to define yourself in the settings what you
want to find as interesting. (I suggest
you start with something like diff 1.00 - 1.50, exclude scores beyond
3 or 4, for a move range of 2 or similar - If you are more experienced
you can fiddle better around with the settings and will be able
to read them too. You can also start looking at the graph (1)
for immediately getting a picture of turning points or how 'wild'
or 'calm' a game was.)

Just a few first hints...

P.S. 'Move range' is the number of moves to be compared
for the same player to move. E.g. if you set a score diff of 1
for +2 moves it will give you any position, when the score
drops or rises by 1.00 pawns in the next 2 moves...
(I use move range normally only from +1 to +3, the score diff.
depends on your goal how sensible blunders you try to find)
Score difference should be obvious.
Compare opponent score is another method, because it compares
the score of both players at the same move. It will give you
informations how much both players _disagreed_ on a move.

The default settings in GameAnalyser.ini as downloaded are ...

Interesting_positions= 60
Ignore_position= 500
Move_Range=-1
Compare_to_opponent= 0
Positive_scores= 1

I would think the default settings should give somewhat reasonable results. But i will play with the settings, based on your tips.
