Scorpio and DanChess

Postby Robert Allgeuer » 30 Jun 2005, 19:03

What is the relationship between the two engines? Is one the successor to the other one, or a light version of the other one or ....

Thanks
Robert

DannChess is Daniel Shawul's first chess engine.

Scorpio is a complete rewrite (not based upon the same code framework).

Currently, they are about the same strength.

Eventually, Scorpio will become much stronger.

It appears to me that Scorpio 1.3 is much stronger than the earlier versions.

DanChess CCT7 is also an elite engine.

I believe that work on DanChess has stopped and all energies are being focused on Scorpio.

Scorpio has a liberal, BSD like license.

For me, it is very heartwarming to see the innovation in open source engines like Scorpio, Glaurung, and (of course) Fruit.

It seems also a bit of a coincidence that the authors are all very nice people.

They are two different engines.
Code is different. playing style is different.
ofcourse there are some ideas they share, like every other
two engines with the same author.
if you are worried about not using two engines from the same author,
use scorpio.

Hi Peter :) ,

yes, looks promising.

We think that it is time now to replace DanChess CCT7 by Scorpio 1.3 in CEGT. Moreover we already have a lot of results for DanChess.

Best Regards

Hi all :) ,

two questions regarding Scorpio:

- is there a logo available?

- recommendation for an ini file including pawn hash and eval hash, total amount of hash used should be around 256 MB or a bit more

Best Regards
Heinz
