Help wanted - searched is right starting elo for rating list

Postby hirdelgird » 26 Oct 2004, 12:14

Hello to all

please give me your opion !

what is the right starting elo for rating list with games played at blitz 40 moves in 5 min and repeat ?

Actuell use as starting elo 2.300, - to see the leader-engines nearly in same elo as on other websides. But I am not very pleased with it, cause many engines in the middle shows in my opinion to less elo in comparision with other websides. May be its only a result of to less games, I dont know.

Thanks for voiting !!

There isn't any. The rating points resulting from your tournaments don't belong to the same category of measurement as for example the different weights of people. The rating points are only valid within your group of engines. If you like choose 20000 or 42 as start Elo, it doesn't matter.

A link for further explanation (in German): http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo-Zahl

Hello Volker

thanks for your answer. - want to know how others see what is the "right elo highless" for timelimit blitz 40/5 - that the strength of the engines which are included in a rating-list can only be seen in camparision to themself its clear, this I have not meant.

... my home language is not english, - so I am poor in that, let me say it in easy words ...

- its a "different or better look" in the rating-list when by starting elo 2.350 the leader for example has 2.688 elo and by starting elo 2.300 it only has 2.634 elo. All other does nt matter also for me.

When you say I am crazy cause of worry by that, I must say you are right of course. but I must - because in other case I would not handle with chessengines and even publish there results on a webside.

Hi,

You should fix one engine at some rating. For example, fix Ruffian at 2700 and then you should adjust your starting ratings so that Ruffian gets 2700.

I suggest you take some reference point from WBEC Ridderkerk.

Best regards,
Pallav

Hello Pallav

thanks for give my that advice. Thats a real good idea to gauge the rating-list with one engine, its much better than to give a certain starting-elo for all engines.

Have done so as you told with Ruffian 1.05.

thanks in advance
