The difficult ZPTS positions - which engines can solve them?

Postby Anonymous » 27 Oct 2004, 17:15

How is your (favorite) engine doing in those difficult positions of Robert Allgeuer's zugzwang test suite? Is it solving any in reasonable time? Or, if you have the patience, is it solving any after really long time?

pos 19: not solved in one hour, probably will not be solved in day.
pos 20: not solved in 12 hours (I had some hope)
pos 28: not solved in one hour.

Does any engine see (perhaps after a really long time), that Qf8 loses in pos 20?

All other positions (see some posts back, where Robert posted the whole test suites) were solved in one minute besides pos 25 - which is a mate in 3 ... That mate in 3 needed 18 minutes! But the engine would win it with another move easily with short thinking time. Still a nice curiosity.

Regards,
Dieter
