WildCat 5 is available for download

Postby Igor Korshunov » 05 Aug 2005, 05:59

Hi All!

WildCat 5 is available for download at www.igorkorshunov.narod.ru/WildCat/.

Seems WildCat has been improved.

Changes in new version:

- Razoring at depth == 1
- Futility pruning at depth == 1
- Checks time 10 times per second during search. In previous version time was checked every 64 KNodes. It cause problems in late endgame with big egtb installed, because speed fall to ~5 KNodes / second. As a result time checks interval above 10 seconds. This can cause time loses. Single time lose in WBEC was because of this reason.
- Many small tweaks in evaluation
- Don't move instantly when received draw offer. Ignoring offer.

Best wishes,
Igor

Hi Igor,

This is really good news.
However, mainbook may be corrupted because I get a disk read error while unpacking.

Hi Igor,

Mihail seems to be right, and it was a download problem. I have now successfully downloaded and unpacked the book.

Is there any other place where I could download the smaller Mainbook?

From the above link I get less than 200 Byte/sec (with DSL!), and after about 60 kB the download is stopped (but of course not complete)! :evil:

PS: In the meantime I?ve got it by installing a download manager especially for that single download - what a wasteful of effort for a single 256 kB file! :(

Hi Franz

I agree completely. My download time for the 82 kb WildCat5.rar file was over 5 minutes.

yes, I don?t know *any* other site in the whole internet with such a slow download rate!

A good solution for this is a download manager (I?ve used ?Free Download Manager?), which splits the download into several parts and loads them simultaneously. And another advantage is, that whenever the download is aborted, the download manager doesn?t start from the beginning again, but simply continues ...

If you don?t already know this program:
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

Of course there are also lots of other similar programs.

Regards,
Franz.

Hi Franz

I use the Nettractive download manager. It works fine for aborted downloads, but is no help with slow download sites such as this one. :-)

Hi Franz,

Thank you for the suggestion. Aided by the FDM I managed to download even the 2.5 MB style book, it took only 43 minutes (ADSL).
