Old New Slow Chess Blitz beta

Postby Jon Kreuzer » 27 Aug 2005, 00:03

Hi, I hope you didn't get excited from reading the post title or you might be dissapointed. This is a newer version than WV, however it's almost exactly the same. (I think I changed some evaluation values, and made the search more selective by changing some variables.)

The history of this version is that I made it shortly after I released WV, and planned on doing some interesting things, like adding checks and other tactical moves to the QSearch in conjunction with the greater selectivity, and rewriting parts of the evaluation. However it has just sat on my computer, as I've been working on non chess related things and I'm not sure when I'll be back to chess.

Recently I decided to test it in 2 hundred blitz game matches against Ruffian 1.01. The first(180+2) it scored 47.5%, but the second hundred games(180+1) it scored 57%, enough to make me think there's a chance it might be stronger than the public version. So I renamed it WV2, posted it here.

100 games against 1 opponent doesn't mean much, so if anyone who has a stable rating of WV from hundreds of games(blitz games are fine with me) wants to test WV2 and report if it's stronger, it will be appreciated, and if it is I'll put it on the SlowChess web page. (Honestly, I don't really expect a noticeable improvement, I think it just had a lucky match.)

Thx, you build a very important chessprogram. It is tactical a brilliant thing.

I am playing a 40 games match on Athlon 64(3800+) 40/40 against Zappa 1.1

At the moment it is a 5,0:5,0 after 10 games.

More in the tournamentchapter.
