Graham.
I agree and therefor have registered today.
So because you are pointing on some troubles with CCC or CTF, it would be good
to learn, whether the new forum would strictly be related to Winboard questions
only, or if all chess related topics would be accepted there.
Regards, Reinhard.

First thanks to both of you for supporting me.
To Reinhard's question:
The "General" sub forum is reserved for Xboard/Winboard and related
questions (engine news, tools for this GUIs and so on).
The description of the "Related Software and Smalltalk" sub forum
reads:
General area for discussing other chess GUIs, databases, tools,
chess in general and other topics. Also discussion about the forum
belong into this sub forum. Keep it nice please! No flaming or hate
speech.
"Chess in general and other topics" allows nearly everything. So feel
free to post what you like as long it isn't illegal, offensive or
abusive AND it is no flaming or hate speech. "Keep it nice"
means that the usual standards of good manners should be respected. Is
the description of the forum that misleading?
Some words in general. I've announced the relocation of the forum several
times:
http://f11.parsimony.net/forum16635/messages/67557.htm
http://f11.parsimony.net/forum16635/messages/69573.htm.
No one made any suggestion which software to choose or to avoid.
After weeks of inquiries and tests I came to the conclusion the phpBB
forum is the best choice.
Due to very severe trouble happening behind the scenes I
decided to do the relocation now. The biggest problem was to find an ISP
willingly to host the forum. I made several requests and most
denied because of the server load. Diskspace and bandwidth is
not an issue but the phpbb software interacts with an mysql database.
And therefore the server activity might be a problem in the future.
However, the ISP and I committed that if problems occur they will
inform me and we'll find a solution and they will not simply shut the
forum down. If that happens to return to this forum is a fall-back
option until April 2005. The old forum will stay online till then.
Everybody can download the archives, search for and save postings
of special interest and so on.
About the costs: the new forum will be out of charge. I'm running it
for fun and if I don't had fun I wouldn't run it. The costs of course
must be in a reasonable limit. This is the case now and I have no
reason to ask for money.
I don't think 114 registrants aren't to less after so few days. Of
course I'm waiting for more registrants and postings from some regular
posters I assume to be attractors for others. I wrote some e-mails
asking for problems but didn't get replies yet. Therefore I
think there are no major problems and they will follow too.
After all thanks to everybody who made suggestions, critize or gave
support (logos) for the new forum.
Regards
Volker

Hello Reinhard,
Let me see if I can help with that question.
This is the Winboard Forum and the feel, content and style will remain the same on the main page.
There is at least (or at most, depending on your point of view) one forum available for general discussion.
There will be no confusing the Winboard Forum with the CCC or CTF.
So a running discussion as to who is the greater chess player, Alekhine or Kasparov (it is so clearly Alekhine! Hahahahahah) will not be tolerated on the main pages. A discussion as to the relative merits of classic chess versus fischer random chess - or commercial guis versus Winboard - would be similarly treated.

I hope this helps.

Later.

Hi Volker,
one thing I dislike at the new Forum ist that there seems to be no one-click-link to Leo's hp as it is here.
Hope, you are able to create such possibility. I got fond of it!
Best greetings from Hamburg

I agree I miss that too. I'm going to find out how to do.
The problem is that the new forum isn't simply HTML but it is
written in php. I will add the links as soon as I have found out how to do so.

I'm just implementing it in the subSilver style. it will take a while because I have to change it in the template files for each style seperately.
