Fimbulwinter timing adaption wish

Postby Guenther Simon » 21 Mar 2009, 19:56

Fimbulwinter has no time management, but it has some cheap hard coded values
for pseudo controlling time usage, which are somehow outdated with nowadays hardware.
It would be nice if someone (Jim?) with a decent compiler could either generate some
compilations with higher depth /lower max time or make the two values commandline params,
which wouldn't be as tedious as adding a full time control management.

The source is available here:
http://www.shedletsky.com/jjshed/chess/

data.c:

Code: Select all
/* the engine will search for max_time milliseconds or until it finishes
   searching max_depth ply. */
long max_time = 10000000;
int max_depth = 6;

100000 or 200000
and 7 or 8 would be fine with me :)

Thanks a lot Jim! I will test it soon.
BTW I noticed that a newer Braincrack source than the one that is built on your site is available
since early 2007.
Moreover do you perhaps have the source of the Simple engine from Remi Coulom? His site still
says the source is available but it is not there in the download. I haven't checked Danns site yet.
In a current tourney I had the luck(may be I should play lotto?) that Simple in 3 games of 22
promoted its b2 pawn to a1=Q :) In the handful of games I had before I didn't experience
this bug of course.

Best wishes,
Guenther
