Additional Time Control

Postby vinenator » 08 Dec 2009, 14:39

I am using 4.4.0 and was testing some games (computer vs computer) and noticed an odd behavior.

i have time control set to 40 moves in 120 min.

after the 40th move for white, time is reset to 2:00:00 and black makes its move. at this point, something odd happens. both computer engines stop working. if i examine them using task manager, their CPU allocation (usually 50/50 or so) shows 0%. neither is actually working and as long as i wait (overnight) neither program does any "thinking" at all.

i've only been able to reproduce this problem from one of the engines and i've contacted the author to see if they know of any problem, but so far, no response.

has anybody else noticed this? i plan to change the timing to 40 moves in a shorter time frame to see if the results are the same.

a little more information...

winboard was installed on a new computer and the out of the box setting is to have pondering turned off. that explained why the other chess engine was not "thinking". i'll try to replicate the problem again to see if the engine that seems to be non-responsive is actually thinking.
