Scatha 0.2.10 is now ready for download. There are several improvements compared to the previous version:
- Compatibility with various hardware/software combinations further improved. I am quite sure this version will work with all Macs running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer; please let me know if you have problems.
- UCI configuration has finally been added. Only one little thing is missing; support for UCI options of type "button" (most commonly used for the "Clear Hash" option). I simply wasn't aware that this type of option existed. It will be fixed in the next version, of course.
- UCI engines can now be uninstalled, with exception of the bundled engines (Glaurung and Scatha).
- Support for cut and paste of chess positions to the clipboard. Click on the board window, choose "Edit" > "Copy" from the menu, switch to any application accepting text input, and choose "Edit" > "Paste". The FEN string for the current board position will be pasted. When copying in the other direction, you highlight the FEN string, choose "Edit" > "Copy", switch to the Scatha application, choose "Game" > "Set up Position", and then "Edit" > "Paste".
- The "Easy Levels" menu items are deactivated for all engines which don't support easy levels (in practise this means all engines except Scatha 0.2.10).
- Installed patches can now be easily removed again, by choosing "File" > "Remove All Patches".
- The "About Schatha" box shows the correct version number, and also some other (not terribly interesting) information.
- Engine improvements in Scatha: An ugly hash table bug in the Scatha engine (also present in Glaurung Mainz, by the way) has been fixed. The value of a queen is adjusted up considerably (from 10 pawns to 12.5 pawns). Some new basic endgame knowledge has been added; for instance Scatha finally knows that king + minor piece vs king is a draw.
