how to pause the a game pgn in winboard?

Postby evergreen1 » 15 Apr 2014, 14:04

when i load a pgn file(for example a game between karpov and korchonoi_)in winboard, it plays automatically like a slideshow move by move at a considerable speed. it is good to see how the game went on. but in any particular point , if i want to pause the game what should I do? after pausing , what should i do to resume the game?is there provision to slow down the speed?

Above the board there is a 'button bar' with buttons <<, <, P, > and >>. (If not, you can make them appear with the checkbox 'Show Button Bar' in the General Options menu dialog.)

The 'P' button is for pausing. Hitting it again would restart the auto-play. Using any of the others would also pause the auto-play, in addition to stepping one move or to the beginning / end.

In the Load Game Options dialog you can set the speed (in seconds/move, fractions allowed). 0 means instant positioning at game end after loading, any negative value would suppress the auto-play and leaves the game at the start position. (Well, I guess in WinBoard you would have to untick the checkbox for that, as MicroSoft numeric input fields do not accept negative numbers.)
