how to load pieces for analysis

how to load pieces for analysis

I want to analysis a position. for that i want to load the position.using winboard 4.8.0
i went to mode menu>edit position> clicked on the clock for clear the pieces>right click on a square to get the list of all pieces so that i can select the required piece. but i only get pawns everywhere i clicked. how can i get other pieces >for example king?

Earlier versions allowed to get the pieces by right clicking on the desired sqare. But newer versions don't.

"Drag the mouse down with the right button kept down to change the pawn to what you need. This mode is subject to the option -pieceMenu true|false" .

The easiest way to set up a position is to click the clock twice. That gives you a position with every piece type once, and then you simply drag these to the square you want, or off board when you don't want them. If you want a piece twice you can move it keeping Ctrl pressed, to copy it rather than move. For Pawns you can just click the squares, as you discovered. (For black Pawns with Shift pressed.)
