Transparent Textures for Xboard

Back when I pushed out the Xboard OSX app, I had included a number of board textures. Some of the more useful textures in the app bundle were the transparent ones as they effectively could be used with xboard's own light square and dark square color pickers and give what would otherwise be a flat color a texture.

I had noticed in gorgonian's texture set that many of the textures were the same save a color change. That had gotten me thinking that if I just make more a less an alpha differential of the texture, it could be laid on top of xboards own squares. I thought it surprisingly it worked rather well, and certainly gives a lot more options.

I just wanted to post these textures in case someone else would find them useful.

Ideally place them within the textures folder within the data directory. This is a location that is set at compile but it defaults to /usr/local/share/games/xboard/themes/textures. Then in the board menu within xboard, it will be easily accessible when you choose a texture. It will be in the textures folder on the left panel. Choose light square and dark square texture. As they are transparent the color is dictated by the light and dark square colors.

It is just like any other board texture in xboard.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I never noticed that there were textures in XBoard. I will try.
