I can only answer for the Baron, and the answer is yes.
The Baron 1.7.0 remains available, and I'll probably release 1.8.1 next month. So you could also say that it is public with a delay :-)

I thought that the current version was 2.8 for Baron..

I can see why Roger is such a Baron devotee. The Baron goes straight for the jugular! :wink:

Yes, it is. In fact, I'm currently working on 2.11.
The Baron 1.8.1 was the version of the ICT-Leiden 2006 (spring 2006).
