New Chess Problems Usergroup

Postby Volker Pittlik » 24 Nov 2004, 10:20

Franz Huber has asked me to open a new sub forum dedicated to chess problems. The new forum has been opened and there are also some chess problems posted.

The forum is hidden and only members of the "chess problems" usergroup can see it. If you would like to join that group and see the forum please follow these instructions: http://volker-pittlik.name/wbforum/faq.php#30.

The forum is hidden because there have been complaints about the number of visible forums. Therefore the Chess Problems, AEGT and Moderator Forum are hidden for non-members.

In case there is a big public interest in chess problems I can change the status of that forum to "visible". It would be nice if some people vote to get an impression.

Regards

Volker

Hi.

Nice idea to hide forums so a user must do an active thing to enable it for himself. Maybe it should be easier to enable/disable forums for a user. When he is approved as member to this site I see no need to approve him for each group too if the group is of such a format as this problem group.
If you manage to create such features (easy enable/disable) I would like to see a group for discussion of human-computer games where tips for usage, style of engines etc. can be discussed, prefered not only restricted to winboard engines.
Maybe these default forums also could be added to each own group so these too could be enabled/disabled, could be a solution for people who think this site is too complex already.

I'm afraid this is not possible with phpBB. The only choices are:

- Public => Everyone can read and write
- Register => Everyone can read only registered users can write (default here)
- Register hidden => Only registered users can see, read and write
- Private => Everyone can read only members of a usergroup can write
- Private hidden => Only members of a usergroup can see, read and write (AEGT, Chess Problems)
- Moderators => Access only for moderators
- Moderators hidden => Access only for moderators and visible only for them.

That would be interesting indeed. If you like I can set up something. But it wouldn't do harm to discuss such topics in this forum :-).

On this, I was thinking of that a user could add/delete himself from a group, which also would delete him from the attended forum. A quick look at the phpBB description seems to apply that this isn't possible. The thought for an easy enable/disable is so a user can temporary enable a forum, just for looking into it, but as default don't want to include it in his list. For this purpose it would be too slow with registration with approvement for each group.

Yes, I understand that this can be discussed here, but it would be much harder to find what you need later. If you want to find a new engine for your traing session it had been nice if reviews, impressions, features etc. was lined up in one section.

Hi Volker!

Very good news! :D

Although the voter turnout was quit low, the result was rather clear.

So does it mean now, I also can retire from my job as group moderator?
(auf gut ?sterreichisch: Hab mich ohnehin nie drum ?gerissen?! )

Once again many thanks for this new sub-forum,
Franz.

Done. You're still moderator of the usergroup because every usergroup has to have one. If you don't complain I'm going to delete the whole group. There is no use for it now.

Ok Volker,

since it?s now no longer a special user group but simply a sub-topic of the
normal WB-forum, it will be the best to completly remove this group.
(and I?m now ?jobless? again ... :D )

Regards,
Franz.
