Games limitation under Scid ?

Postby Olivier Deville » 22 May 2007, 06:13

Hi all

Is there any maximum munber of games that Scid can operate in a PGN file ?

I am using Scid to display the ratings of OpenWar. I have now 1617 games in the PGN, but Scid sees only 1599 games.

I have just installed the last Scid by Pascal Georges, but it does not help.

I have no idea what is the reason but I think I found a workaround. Firstly: it has nothing to do with the Scid version. The copy of file you send me show the same results here and I use the "original" version coming with SuSe.

Checks with an editor and other tools show that Scid is wrong here. I guess is has something to do with PGN processing. If you create a temporay database in Scid format and import the PGN into it the number of games is correctly displayed. So the problem can be avoided although there seems to be a bug.

What is still incorrect is the number of comments shown in the game list also if the Scid format is used. It is almost all the time 30, 40 or 50 and only weakly correlated to the number of moves what should be expected.

Hi Volker

Thanks for the hint.

I therefore tried the following :

1. Create a temporary scid database
2. Import my pgn file into the scid database
3. Ask for the standings...

...and scid still displays 1599 games in the standings window :(

Hm, here it works fine:

Code: Select all
OpenWar 2nd Edition
DELL-E6600, 2007.02.20 - 2007.05.21
                           Score       1    2    3
--------------------------------------------------
 1: Spike 1.3X6          47.0 / 49   27b+ 41w+ 21b
 2: Bright 0.1d          42.0 / 49   45w= 48b+ 31w
 3: Chiron 0.8.3b2       42.0 / 49   33w=  9b+ 38w
...
64: BikJump 1.2.1         4.5 / 49   60w- 33b-  9w
65: Protej 0.5.5          4.5 / 49   36w- 25b- 20w
66: ALChess 1.5b          3.5 / 49   38w- 55b- 51w
---------------------------------------------------
1617 games: +733 =245 -639

This is from my temp database. I try to find it out.

This problem had to do that the tournament was to long. After a certain amount of time Scid "thinks" there are two different tournaments. To make it worse it doesn't happen in Linux.

Yes Volker you solved the case 8-)

I would prefer Scid to obey the user instead of "thinking"... I'll contact Pascal Georges about the problem.
