Problems with OBender

Postby H.G.Muller » 30 May 2007, 21:36

I am trying to run OBender, but it seems to be unaware of the time on the clocks. It stays thinking 10-15 sec per move even when it has exceeded its time by 4 minutes in a 5+0 game. It only seemed to speed up when the opponent was running out of time (but this might just have been my imagination, or coincidence because it was nearly checkmated.

Even the newest version 2.11.5 behaves this way, in every game. I am running under Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Core 2 Duo.

Has anyone else noted such problems with OBender?

You're not the only one. I too have noticed too that OBender often runs out of time, and not just the current version, but previous versions as well.

I have entered more than 4 different versions of Obender in my different tournaments, but I had to take out every single version because it always lost around move 25 or so. The problem was there in the last version as well. It would be nice if the author would fix this annoying problem, other than that the engine seems to be around the same strength as Zeus.

No losses on time for OBender here, but I do notice that at 40 moves in 68 minutes repeating time control, OBender only uses 30-40 seconds per move.

Yes, I noticed that OBender plays quite strong. But of course it is a bit of an unfair comparison when, at 5+0, the opponent's time at some point decreases to 100 msec per move, and OBender continues to use 10 sec.
