Noomen A-H

Postby Onno Garms » 14 Jun 2007, 22:19

Now, when writing the reply, I see that I posted in German. Must have had a blackout.

My question was where to get Noomen A-H. With google, I only found Noomen A-D on CSS. Mike couldn't find Noomen A-H either.

Basically, I'm want more test positions, ideally with subsets that can be used alone. So I could first run a modified version of my engine against a subset and in case of good results against the whole suite.

By what criteria do you tell?

IIRC, I did never notice big imbalances after the variations, from the first engine evals. I am not 100% sure, but I would certainly remember if I had found problems or would have concluded a variation unsuitable. That's why I think it is a good useful set.

(But I tested only 4 or 6 engines with it and forgot which ones.)

Hello Onno,

Have you tried the Silver suite? I like it a lot, and use it for almost all my non-FRC test matches. The full suite consists of 50 positions, but there is also a shorter version with 20 (?) positions. I have only used the full suite.

No, I didn't know it. Thank you for the tip. Where can I find the short version? I only found the long version (in Google cache of a posting at talkchess).

Here is a combined openings suite. It is very much a work in progress, but it contains most of the opening moves from other opening move suites. I have already discovered a few surprises in it. The oddball annotations are mine, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
