Even if I did, I wont know more than to compare the size of the executables and run few matches. Since Dann Corbit was able to identify Strelka as a clone, may be we should contact him. I think it might be a clone, but since I am not 100% sure I would rather say I dont know if it is a clone or not. I am also going to contact Ron.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your answer and thanks for telling knowledgeable people.
Guenther, as he posted, in on the case too.

I am being too impatient.
One is innocent until proved guilty and as the accused has been here for years, why not wait a few more days ?

Best wishes.

Ron said that he took a look at both engines and that there are considerable differences among them.

Hi Tony,

Ron actually said he took a quick look at the two engines and compared them by playing them against his own engine without a book. The two engines played differently and, even if I forced one of them to make the move of it's so-called clone, on the next turn the game moves would again diverge. All the exe strings were different except for one similarity.

I'm not sure if I compared the correct versions of either engine -- I compared the versions I happened to have. It's quite possible that other versions of these engines are more similar. I'll leave it to more experienced clone detectors to make a decision that can be trusted.

Hello everybody !

No definitive verdict it seems and not that much interest for a very old programm :(

I didn't claim it was exactly a copy from another programm but "only", as I posted with my "proofs", that it borrowed way too much from a source.

The good news is that the suspect is not strong enough to qualify for my Dinosaur League anyway, so I won't give any new headache about it.

Best wishes.

Strength and age of the engine was one of the reasons why me and Ron decided to let it slide.
What more can I say?

Hi Pablo,

The Clone List page is always up to date. I make changes as people notify me of new discoveries. The most recently added clone was "Thunder" by "Mark Evans", USA, a Cerebro clone. The most recent change to the page was identifying "Hardware Harvey" as a Hiarcs clone.

Best regards,
Ron

Not necessarily. The GPL says: "If you release, then you have to release the source." You still have the option not to release at all.
See
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLRequireSourcePostedPublic

IMHO, playing in a tournament is not a release as long as the developper (or a team member) operates the engine. If the tournament conditions allow this, is another question.
