I've re-compiled into windows exes a lot of the old Sjeng versions
from the source code available here >

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4560&package_id=4558

Versions compiled:
7.0 - 7.1 - 7.2 - 7.3.1 - 7.4 - 7.4.1 - 7.4.2 - 8.0

Have you got any idea of the strength of the 8.0 one?

Hi Martin,

None that strong. I tested them at 40/3 against latest Brutus.
4.3.1 seemed about the strongest - a bit stronger than Brutus, but I didn't play enough games to be sure. I would estimate 2000-2100 elo range at that time control in comparison to other engines.

Regards,
Jim.

Thanks Jim. I might want to include the 8.0 in the CCRL rating list, if it's about ~2100 ELO it could play against Micro-max and engines like it.

I can't get it to work. When I load the engine it refers to a file called "gdbm3.dll" which it can't find.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Wb2Uci adapter, but this engine might need to run in a native WB GUI?

Hi Martin,

You've not done anything wrong - I have!
The exes are compiled with the 'Gnu database Library' Sjeng uses
this with it's book functions.

Re-download again - same link.

http://www.mydatabus.com/public/deckard ... _78_ja.zip

You'll find the necessary dll's with it this time.

Apologies,
Jim.

If you are interested in engines with similiar strength to micromax then I see no reason not to use faile.

Based on my memory Sjeng first versions were based on faile.
