EGTB Issues

Postby Carter Smith » 17 Jul 2007, 03:03

Not seeming to get egtb enabled with Crafty and Winboard

position:
8/2K5/8/6n1/4k3/7r/8/8 w - - 0 1

White King VS Black King/Rook/Knight
I can mate this no problemo in about 10. (I played black against crafty took about 1 minute out of the five I gave myself and it took 10 turns anyway)
So why does Crafty have to even think about it? Took 30 seconds to come up with the mate when I set analysis mode.

My rc:

log=off
egtb
tbpath=C:\Users\CarterSmith\Downloads\Chess\Tablebases
cache=128M
hash=2048M
hashp=8M
learn=7
ponder=on
swindle=on
resign=10
book random=1
book width=5
exit
Best regards,
Carter Smith

Confirmed. It doesn't work here too. Also my standard EGTB test position does not work:

Code: Select all

EGTB access enabled
using tbpath=/media/tbs
4 piece tablebase files found
1385kb of RAM used for TB indices and decompression tables
EGTB cache memory =    2M bytes.

I decided to take a crack at it command-line style and also got some interesting results.
Perhaps the red marks indicate why it seems a bit slow to me? Could be I downloaded the wrong compile for my CPU. Athlon x2 64 and the file I'm running is crafty_1919-AMD64-smp.exe. Ah well here's my shot as well.

There is no book found. TBs are enabled but not found. Do you have something like

mt 2

in your crafty.rc? That has nothing to do with TBs by the way. Please check the Crafty documentation.

I know the SMP status has nothing to do with TBs. That was just an observation I made in regards to crafty feeling slow on this computer in analysis mode. A topic from another thread I was just digressing upon here.

I do not have that argument in my .rc either. (rc is shown in first post btw)

Is there a tree depth limit on how deep crafty can find the TB dir perhaps?
