DreamChess 0.20 was released in November

Postby Guenther Simon » 05 Jan 2008, 10:39

I noticed by accident that they made a new release.
It has a very nice GUI and includes the new version
of the WB compatible Dreamer engine.

Over a year has passed since the first release, and we are now happy to present DreamChess 0.2.0. DreamChess is a 3D chess game for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The new release can be downloaded from our website at http://www.dreamchess.org. ...

Hi Guenther,

roughly how strong do you think this engine is?

Hi Graham,

I haven't tested it before thus I have no clue, but the previous
version played at Oliviers ChessWar in the qualification.
Probably you can get a rough guess from its results there.

I will know more though in around 6-8 weeks after a quite big
Swiss tourney (15 double game rounds)for lower level entries
in my rapid rating list.

Tiffanys tried to use more than available virtual ram for its second
game and PulChess most of the time rejected legal moves as illegal ones
with Black!!
Goyaz replaced by Numpty_021pr, because it always repeated its 39th
move as move 40!

Hi Guenther and Graham :)

I am testing here a pre-release Dreamer 0.3.0, which is still not too strong. The author is working on a new version with opening book and pondering.

Thanks for your reply Guenther. 8-)
I couldn't get Tiffanys 0.4 to load, so gave up. Sounds like it was just as well anyway.
Looking forward to your tourney result.

Thanks for this information Olivier.
I downloaded TLCV and once I get it working properly, I look forward to keeping a closer eye on both yours and Guenther's tournaments.

Hi HG,

I set up a broadcast now at my usual place:

rwbc.homedns.org
port: 17088

Note that I surely will not broadcast at 24/7, but from time to
to time. It would be nice though if someone checks now if
a connection can be established, because I had to create a new
DynDNS account and I want to verify all works ok.

For Graham/Olivier:

Dreamer seems to have no time management at least
for my conditions and always moves immdediately.

I just tried it, but could not get a connection. What are the times when you are most likely to broadcast?

I can't get a connection to any of the sites anytime. :(

This is probably because you did not poke holes in _all_ your firewalls. I had to tear down 3 to finally get through: One in my ADSL modem, one in my wireless router, and I had to switch off Zone-Alarm on my PC. Only then I could get through.

The Chess War ports are open virtually all the time, so they are a good test opportunity.

It seems I probably closed it shortly before you did connect ;)
If you like you can try it again tomorrow around 10am GMT+1.

Hi Guenther :)

You can set a search depth by the "sd" command line. Next versions will support time management.

Hi Olivier,

Neither 'sdn' 'sd n', 'd n', 'dn', 'n' as extra command line changes its behaviour here. (n is of course the depth number)

My more computer savvy son sorted it for me. I was able to connect to Olivier's broadcast last night! :)
