Amundsen 0.65 (released on January 11th 2008)

Postby Denis P. Mendoza » 15 Jan 2008, 20:28

I just found it while browsing some open-source engines I like. It's odd that Master Jim wasn't called to make a compile as it was released only as source code.

On behalf of John Bergbom, I've made a 32-bit Intel pgo compile for Pentium III and PIV pc (generic for AMD/Intel hardware).

I've seen that Amundsen uses bitboards, so it may help to speed it up a bit if it was compiled in 64-bit. I haven't tested it, but here is another pgo compile. I may be wrong. Pls. give some feedbacks if it improves.

There is an array address calculation bug in function checking_move() of swap.c when calculating rook_square.

You can get a value of 64, which will be the 65th item to lookup an array address that goes from 0 to 63.

This position will reproduce the problem at ply 6:
2r1k2r/2pn1pp1/1p3n1p/p3PP2/4q2B/P1P5/2Q1N1PP/R4RK1 w k - bm exf6; id WAC.265;

Save it as a file and run the testsuite function against it.

I sent an email to Mr. Bergbom to describe the difficulty.

Hi Denis

You are really a very useful newcomer :) I am currently testing your x64 compile of Amundsen 0.65.

By the way, it still reads 0.60 under Winboard.

Thanks Olivier. I'm only a prodigy of Jim Ablett, a late bloomer in this sort of hobby at 45 yrs of age. I'm also a silent follower of Dann Corbit (of his classic Windows fixes) and Tord Romstad too. It surely added my continuing addiction in this area of computerchess.

I just compiled straight from source, so I didn't notice that it still reads 0.60 in WB. John Bergbom might have missed it before he released the sources. i hope he sends his comments too in this forum.
