News: Private/Clone Engine List, and New Winboard FAQ

The Private Engine List and the Clone Engine List have been recently updated. Please check to see if I've left something out or got something wrong. All corrections are welcome!

I've also done a small amount of work on the new Winboard FAQ. If anyone has any corrections or suggestions, please let me know.

Aaron Tay wrote the original beginner's guide. The current version has been modernized and expanded.

I need a volunteer for writing a section about playing Suicide Chess, Fischer Random, and other variants. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Her is something I cant seem to understand. Cerebro is a highly private engine, and there are so many clones of it. I wonder why?? Also, Ikarus competed in CCT-10 this year, so it was active this year..Also, Chompster competed in the australian computer tournamnent in 2006 if I am not mistaken.

That's a very good question!

If I did that I would have very few links! I really don't care about the link-backs. I have no patience for wars over UCI vs Winboard or Arena vs Winboard. If a UCI/Arena guy wants to ignore the site that's okay. As long as the site is helpful to a computer chess beginner, that's all I care about.

I heard about a russian engine with Multi-core capability a while back, I think it was called Axon or something. It played against a GM or something, I dont remember the name of the author. However, I can tell you that Djordje was one of the testers.

Yes, you are right. Most of that discussion had another hidden topic anyway.

about all available WB/UCI engines are not listed in your links page?

edit: I see now that RWBC appears under 'tournaments and ratings',
but only at the horizonchess site and the the link is outdated too.
Moreover I think at least the anthology pages(fka chronology pages)
qualify for the category of general interest. Thre is also a download
section at RWBC which holds downloads for WB engines which are
not available anymore from their authors.

Hi Guenther,

Your site is very helpful and deserves to be listed. I apologize for not listing it in more places. At the moment I am (slowly) adding/editing/removing information to the links page to make it more current. I only have a couple of hours a week to spend on the FAQ site. Sometimes I forget about the site and don't I update it for months at a time. That's why updating is so slow! (I'm still looking for volunteers to help me add content to the site!)

Thanks for the infos and for correcting/updating the links to RWBC.
There is no need for any apology, I haven't much time for computerchess
myself currently and I understand that there are circumstances when
it runs on low priority
