What kind of idiots are doing that?

Probably script kiddies with a lot of time on their hands. Anyone who can run a program can crack unprotected websites. I hope Dieter has a backup. He already had some hard time, loosing Yace's sources and all.

At least the hoster had and the site is restored again !

To loose the source is the worst thing what can happen. I really hope Dieter has a backup of that stuff too.

I simply send the source from one computer to another computer almost after every change (I use gmail) .

In case that I lose the source in both computers I hope that I can still get the source simply by picking my email.

You can say bad things about them and be right but I do not think that they are idiots.
They may be smarter than me because I have no idea how to do it.

They are idiots. First of all there is no productivity by hacking a webiste. You just make another person feel bad. And its not hard to learn things, there are materials all over the web on how to hack. They are idiots becase they think they are "cool" hacking something.

I am not running the forum (neither do I run the Yace website). It is all the work of Mogens Larsen. Mogens: "backups exist".

I did not lose Yace's sources with my HD crash. Perhaps very few changes to the sources, I lost. I had a recent backup of the sources. I lost few other sources. Things, that I was too lazy to "schedule" for backups. Some "toy programs". It took a lot of time, however, to install my computer again, with all the development tools, etc. It is still not finished. Even when backups exist, it may never finish.

Seems that many phpbb fora sites were hacked the same way. Maybe there is a misunderstanding of the word idiots.
I translate idiot to stupid or the opposite of intelligent.

In part of the cases people who do these things only to make another person to feel bad are very intelligent.
