Naum 1.7

Postby Naum » 15 Apr 2005, 03:38

Hi,

The new version is available on my web site
http://www.geocities.com/naum_chess

Please note that you have to update the book by running 'naum /UB' (see book_readme.txt).

I improved time management and the search algorithm (lower NPS, but much less nodes searched).
Added history pruning, but it's disabled. It seems to be slightly better for blitz, but worse for longer time controls. I guess it needs tuning.

Fixed some bugs too:
- Loses on time in EGTB drawn positions in which it should move instantly
- Engine reset (clearing hashtables) in UCI mode for ponder miss.
- Evaluation bug that caused Naum to sometimes think that queen beside the king is unsafe

Regards,
Alex

Hello Alex:
I discovered that Naum 1.7 do not use the parameter "-xboard" at winboard.ini command line. If you include that parameter Naum1.7 exit from winboard.
I suggest to include a note regarding this modification at your readme file.
Best,
Pablo

Hi Pablo,

All Naum's parameters start with /
So you should use 'naum /xboard' in your winboard.ini

Hi Alex:
Something misterious happen. As you know quite well the signs "/" or "-" are used indistintecly for commands based in DOS, and Winboard recognize both as same, when used at their commands. Nevertheless if you use the -xboard parameter at your last version (this is the parameter that appear in WBEC for Naum) , Naum1.7 exit from Winboard!!!, but if you use /xboard all works OK????.
If help I use Windows98.

Pablo

Where at WBEC did you find "-xboard" as parameter for Naum????
I never use "-" for "/" because it is _NOT_ the same so if you see it somewhere for Naum at WBEC it must be a typo and then I should like to know at which page.

Naum / or -

Postby Pablo » 17 Apr 2005, 14:29

Hi Leo:
Maybe I am wrong, but please have a look to previous Naum engine details windows (v.1.6 and/or v.1.5).
Years ago I learned that for DOS commands the signs "-" and "/" were the same.

Hi Leo again:
Moreover, at your Engine details windows the following engines indicate the parameter -xboard at the Winboard.ini command line and of what I know all of them can use instead /xboard without problem. This engines are:
Betsy,Cilian,Crux,Cyberpagno,Freyr,Hagrid,Kaissa,Larsen,Pentagon,Storm,Snitch,etc.
