On Phalanx again -- to Pete Galati

Postby Djordje Vidanovic » 28 Aug 1999, 14:45

Pete, I was a bit late in reading your comments on the Drake WB tourney. Anyway, you said you liked Phalanx -- I do too. A lot. It appears to me, after all the testing I've done that version XIX (!) and XX play stronger chess than than XXI. I've also seen it in action on ICC and FICS and they seemed to have performed better there as well. BTW, I am running another program that I like very much now on ICC -- it is Anmon 4.27, handle: MagusX. It plays great attacking chess, much like Phalanx.

Have you tried the Corbit version of PhalanxXXI? BTW, nice to see your page up and running again. You started my interest in winboard engines.
Best wishes...

I had to go back and read what I wrote because I didn't remember by now. You are probably right, the old version probably is stronger. This seams to happen allot where the latest version is weaker than the one before. I'm convinced that that happens to Crafty all the time, on the average though I think it gets stronger each time, some of the new versions are bug fixes.
Yes, AnMon is great isn't it, I'm glad Anmon became available.

Hallo Djordje,
Frank

Phalanx 19 seems the strongest version to me. It's the only version who
won one of my previous WB tournements.
