Are you using the Corbit version of Phalanx?
It does seem a little surprising, but IMO Comets problem is its book. There's too many risky lines and sometimes it gets beaten because of it. I'm thinking about making my own book for Comet with the help of PGN collections from Hyatts website. BTW, could you post the Comet games here?
AnMon is stronger at shorter time, but a surprise nonetheless.
