Slightly off topic for the Winboard forum, but so significant that I simply had to share it...
The Chess Analysis Project is testing a new system. I expect the following data to be a drastic improvement over the old data. I would like someone familiar with theory or with a large database to examine the data carefully and see how well it meshes with theory (or DASHES the theory!). Normally, computer generated analysis pales in comparison to human analyis. We may have been able to cross that threshold.
The values that have 'acd' in them are the old analysis (which is between 12 minutes and 8 hours on a PC). The ones which do not have 'acd' are the supercomputer. There is a funny nomenclature for the pv, but it is obvious what is meant.
I expect that the supercomputer analysis will be vastly, enormously (absurdly) superior. Please respond as soon as possible, as we are trying to set up the system for big runs and we want to be fully operational as soon as possible.
The data are in EPD format [a subset of standard PGN] and can be retrieved in a side-by-side format from:
ftp://38.168.214.175/pub/both.epd
This is a comparison of data produced by PC's at very long time controls with data produced by a supercomputer.
This is a very significant and important step for C.A.P. (and I think it may also be for chess theory).
