A winboard match "Blitz 60 min" of my friend Rolf Bühler between Crafty 17.4-Gromit 3.0 ended with 9,5-0,5. In this match Gromit had not the slightest chance and it seems to me that Crafty is exactly the opponent that does not allow Gromit to play out it's positional style.
Platform: Winboard 4.04 running on AMD K6_II 350/64
Crafty 17.4 with 16 MB hash, with its own book
Gromit 3.0 with 16 MB hash, with fritz4.fbk

Crafty is definately stronger than Gromit. At 40moves in 10 minutes Gromit scored about 30% in our testmatches. (What does "Blitz 60 min" mean?).
Gromit 3.0 is absolutely different from Gromit 2.20 and positionally it
plays differently than Gromit 2.20. I assume Crafty won it's games positionally
in this match.

This result made me let Crafty 17.8 and Gromit 3.00 play a match. After 6 games, Crafty leads by 5-1.
Game in 30 minutes, hash tables 32 MB, ponder off
Platform: WB 4.0.5. running on Celeron 433/128
Both using the above books.
