I think it's good. I did not visit the webpages that you listed, but not all computer Chess directly involves Winboard or Xboard, so everyone has intersts outside of Winboard.
If you were to have a rule that you would only print news about Winboard and nothing else, then it would be boring for _you_, and since _you_ are the one who is doing all of the work, then I think that you should be able to put things in the ticker that you want to see there.
