Hello group,
I have been able to setup SnailChess and TCBishop but I am having trouble with Colchess.
Currently, when launched in Winboard, the Winboard GUI opens on the screen, with colchess vs. User at the top of the board and the User can move, but colchess does not move, even when prompted with 'move now'.
Can anyone see the problem in my configuration ??

Thx,
Chessodie

Did you remember to add the path in autoexec.bat? Ie.
SET ColChess_Path=e:\Path_to_colchess\

Hello,
I went to c:\autexec.bat and used the shortcut key "Edit"
Then I wrote the following script:
set colchess path=e:\progra~1\winboard\colchess\
Unfortunately, I still have the same problem, anyone else care to take a shot ??
Thx,
Chessodie

Try changing the name of the executable to CChess.exe and in the WinBoard.ini file too of course and reboot.

Okay, I tried it but it did not work. I sent an email to the author of the chess engine and he said this problem is occuring allot. He is using a Linux box so he cannot reproduce the problem. He suggested sending my winboard.ini file to him, which I have done. Perhaps he can find the antedote for my bug.
Thx,

Hi,
please send me your WinBoard.ini and Autoexec.bat files.
Interesting for me !
Have you download in my Download page Q the config.zip file. Here can you find configurations for all WinBoard engines. Furthermore stand in my News Ticker (I don`t know which News Ticker Page, please search in my search machine) a little bit about the ColChess configuration.
But when the tip from Mogens not help I think I can also not help !
Regards
Frank

I think you failed due to a typo :
should have been
set ColChess_Path=e:\progra~1\winboard\colchess\
You probably simply forgot the underline . After that reboot your compi and try to run colchess again .
Try this and everything should be ok I think .
regards.

Below is my winboard.ini path, my autoexec.bat and my directory and exe names.
Write them exactly and reboot. I hope that works in your PC.
Rgds,
Pablo
"
set COLCHESS_PATH=d:\colchess\ (Autoexec.bat path)
\"Colchs61 H12\" /fd=D:\\ColChess (WinBoard.ini path)
Drive: D
Directory name:Colchess
Executable: Colchs61.exe
Note: I think is important that directory name and exe
name must not have more than 8 digits. (something to do
with DOS name read limitations at the Autoexec.bat)."

Your configuration is almost identical with mine and since they both work, this appears to be the best approach: a simple path and a short name :o).

I had the exact same problem as you. The answer is Colchess has to be
ran from c: I had mine on d: and it never would work but as soon as I
moved it c: is worked fine.
Try This
