Phalanx22 source for win9x

Hello,
Please excuse the prior post.
I am looking for an edited version of the phalanx source made specially for windows. Dusan has said that he made the win binary by joining all the c sources to a big one (allphalanx.c) then minor editing was needed. I have tried compiling Dan's source to no avail. BTW, Windows is proving over and over again to be much too cumbersome and time-consuming. I guess it's time to switch to Linux, which version I wonder Mandrake or Redhat?
Any help is appreciated,
Andrew Tanner

I had compiled a previous version of Phalanx with djgpp, and I don't recall even editing the makefile to get it to work. It was what I downloaded from Dusan's site, not Dann's. It was probably as easy as using the command "make". So I think your problems are with the Cygnus compiler's compilcations.
I just bought some more memory, and a copy of the Redhat distribution Sunday. The memory went in right away (up to 64 mb now) but Redhat is still in the shrinkwrap, sitting next to me. I tried to get advice about Linux distributions at CCC, but the moderators squashed the thread like a bug (don't lable anything "OT" over there!) For what it's worth, I've heard that Redhat comes with Xboard in the distribution, I don't know if Mandrake does or not, but I hear that Mandrake has a good Windows 95 type installation. I've heard good thing's about Corral too, but don't know anything first hand.

What compiler are you using? I have MS VC++ DSW/DSP files included in the distribution at my ftp site.
Linux will be much more difficult to use unless you already know UNIX (in which case it will be a breeze). However, all the IDE's for GCC are lame, lame, lame, lame. And did I mention that they are lame?
The closest thing is Emacs, which has a learning curve. VI is an editor that only a true hacker could love.
Find a friend who has Linux already installed and spend a weekend fooling around on his computer before you make this step.
Unless all you do is develop programs, you will find that most popular applications are broadly inferior (database, word processor, spreadsheet, etc.)
On the other hand, I must admit that having the source code for all the stuff that you use is almost irresistable to a dedicated hacker.
If you already know UNIX, then please don't bother with a long tirade telling me what an idiot I am. I am coming from the perspective of giving advice to one who knows MS operating systems and does not know UNIX.
P.S.
I despise Windows 95/98
I like Windows NT and Win2K and UNIX
My favorite OS is OpenVMS [go figure].
