I picked up some more memory over the weekend, so now I have 64mb instead of only 40mb. So I finally have enough to be able to use SOS with it's 20mb hashtables.
Nice program. Very strong. Is there a text file that comes with an earlier version? I just downloaded the most recent version and the opening book (and a dll).
Cool program.

Welcome to the 64 Mb club..It's just sufficent to run most engine vers engine stuff..Though some matches like Gormit3 vers Sos or Sos vers Francesa are a tight squeeze..Why can't we just have variable memory set ups like the rest??
The lastest version Nov doesn't work for me..I use the oct one..Unfortunately, i can't get TBs to work with SOS..
Well, with any luck a new version will be released soon..

That would be nice.
I'll try downloading the old SOS to see if it uses tablebases at all. BTW, what kind of computer and OS do you use?
I don't think that's probable, but a surprise would be more than welcome.
Best wishes...

It's pretty cool to have that much memory, I should have spent another $100 and I would have ended up with 96mb, but 64 is good. SOS is a nice program, very brutal games.
I assume that the tablebases are working for me, when I start it with the command line "sos c:\tablebse" the only thing I see in the text mode is SOS acknowlaging where the tablebases are.
But I don't intend to use it for any matches anyhow, and none of the programs actually need the tablebases against me. I'm just not that strong.
